This is John and he plays the bass and sings lead and background vocals. John is a great guy and I like him alot because he gives me a ride to practice. He is also a very good bassist and can sing too. He was one of the founding members of Cheap Vices. John was born in California and he started slappin' on a bass out there (along with slappin'... nevermind!). He moved to Amarillo when he was young. He started jammin' in various bands with some guys in Amarillo College where he was attending school. A few of the groups he was in were called "The Chokin' Chickens" and "Flunk Off", which I thought were very good names. After that, came the family thing. Eventually he started hooking up with Don, his brother in law (by marriage) and soon they kidnapped Monty and held him hostage until he agreed to join them. Or did Monty kidnap them? Oh, well who cares? They started a band, allright? John is a very large fellow which may come in handy if we start drinking too much beer again. He has experience in such things after serving as a Union soldier as a corporal. His musical influences started with the Beatles and became more diversified over the years with ZZ Top, The Stones, The Clash and all things blues, punk, new wave and reggae. John likes the hidden tunes on an album and obscure groups such as Black Uhuru, Modest Mouse and Ima Robot. This strange taste in music drives us all nuts but we figure he is worth it.
